With our projects the wavemakers are reaching a new generation. They make them enthusiastic for topics and questions in the area of water, in the Netherlands and abroad.
To make a difference in the future, water awareness needs to become a part of young people’s DNA. Influencers are used to reach youth through education programmes and make them water aware. We will do this by forming duo’s in the coming years of athletes with a sport ambition and ambassadors Topsector water (students with a scholarship from the Topsector water).
The Dutch Wavemakers give interactive guest lectures at several primary and secondary schools. While taking small steps, they make the children realise that having enough, clean and safe water is not self-evident.

International events are the perfect platform for Dutch Wavemakers. The network of ZSL and their partners is capable to make robust connections around the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-2018, De Scheldebeker 2019 and the Olympic Games of 2020 in Japan. By involving the road to these events in the campaign, a 4-year programme can be founded. Such a period is necessary to give the International Water Ambition its foundation, and to make it known to stakeholders.

Besides the school program in the Netherlands several Dutch Wavemakers will go to different stopovers during the Volvo Ocean Race to reach new young generations, create water awareness and make this generation enthusiastic for water related themes. Themes such as urbanization of delta’s, climate change, water quality and energy transition are addressed. Because together we can reach the SDG's and live in a water safe way.
